With no little amount of scepticism, I went and found the shoe repair guys, just at the side. I was sitting there on a sideways coke crate, one shoe on and one shoe off. I looked up: “Slow but Sure Shoe Repair” was painted on a sign nailed to the wall above me. I was amused, given the usual speed and inattention to detail from most of the tailors here. And it was true. They weren’t fast, but they were good. I regretted not bringing my camera.

Yesterday, my beaded sandals broke for a second time. So this time, I went back, camera in hand.  I snapped away while he did impressive leather work putting my sandal back to better than before.
