“Colleen, I got in!” said Loti as he burst into my office, a huge smile on his face. I smiled in return.
Loti is a colleague here at Concern Universal. He loves football, jazz music, his little pink-toned car.
He is a quiet, well-spoken Malawian man, not yet 30 years old. He asks insightful questions, thinks deeply on issues related to Malawi and more broadly in the world. And, he has befriended every EWB volunteer that has ever come through this office with his smile and easy-going manner.
A few months ago, he was selected as one of 2 people for a full scholarship to study in the UK next year at Dublin University.
But today, Loti is so excited because he has just been accepted for both the scholarship and into his programme. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and for my part, I could not be happier or think of a better, more deserving person.
Now that’s impact!
Hi Colleen.
I’m an EWB-er from McMaster and I’ve been following your blog for a while (actually used your post on mosquito-net-charities in a discussion I had recently). I felt I should finally comment and tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog and since this post was so awesome for being inspiring and joyful, I felt it fit. Thanks for having such an awesome blog and thanks for sharing your thoughts and your work.
