So you want to do something good, to support a movement, a cause, a change.
Change is needed. Change is important. Change is powerful.
Here’s a good place to start, with organizations doing good work to create lasting, meaningful changes on the ground.
Engineers Without Borders Canada
An organization built on the power and energy of young Canadians from all across Canada, EWB Canada has evolved into one of the most effective advocacy and change creating organizations I’ve seen. They are not afraid to ask the tough questions, of others, but also of themselves. They are not afraid to take risk. Creating passionate leaders in communities across Canada and changing the way development is done in Africa. I know; I’ve worked for them previously in Canada and currently in Malawi and Ghana. They have shaped the way I view development, change and the world.
Medecins Sans Frontieres (also known as Doctors Without Borders) has long been known as an organization pushing the limits, working in difficult situations, and making the extraordinary happen. They are known for their integrity, perseverance, dedication and unwillingness to accept the status quo. True change makers.
Acumen spans the blurry line between business and non-profit. They use business skills and techniques (like venture capital) to address some of the world’s most pressing needs. But they aren’t about giving; they are about investing in viable ideas for the future. In their own words: Good… Better… Even Better
Stop giving… start investing! Invest in an individual and their ideas, their spirit and entrepreneurialism who wants to make a business work, but lacks the capital to start it up and make it grow.
